Abstract

This paper consists of an introductory survey of two fundamental questions regarding the link between international entrepreneurship and economic growth. The first step in establishing the linkages requires the formulation of knowledge about the psychological make-up of entrepreneurs. The paper explains that Entrepreneurial activity breeds innovation, injects competitive pressures and develops opportunities in economies. It is the foundation in many respects for broader economic development. Entrepreneurship polices are equally important, as an engine of innovation, in developed countries as they are in developing or transition economies. The purpose of this paper is to explain why the model of the entrepreneurial economy maybe a better frame of reference than the model of the managed economy when explaining the role of entrepreneurship in the contemporary, developed economies. While borrowing constraints or other financial frictions affect entrepreneurship productivity and the distribution of income by restricting agents from profitable occupations that require capital, such as entrepreneurship, this paper is devoted to exploring issues aiming to increase national wealth and to improve international competitiveness of the national economy.

Key words: Entrepreneurship, small firms, economic growth, economic development, policy.

Abstract

In this paper, we try to put some solutions and recommendations that help the advancement of scientific research to resolve issues in the Sudanese society. Despite the obstacles, the movement of scientific research did not stop completely, because a number of researchers still believe in the inevitability of continued scientific research to benefit the maximum of what is available (and the efforts of individual) to attain the objectives of development, prosperity and keep pace with scientific development. The reality, which must be viewed seriously and considering it is that scientific research has become a pedestal only to build a modern state in today's world, and became the backbone for all plans developed nations and even developing countries. And enter the world in the era of World Trade Organisation (WTO) and intellectual property Guanyin and the demands of globalisation for the next century that followed, we will find ourselves irrelevant desert plant that the blood on our present situation did not change ourselves. It must employ scientific research to address the backlog of cases over the years such as the issue of poverty and human capacity development and exploitation of natural resources of the country and the fight against desertification and settling of scientific technologies for the stability of the pastoral communities, and others. The ramifications in the fields of science and technological abounded to the point where it became impossible to take in all its aspects and its subsidiaries and became to be the selection of research needed by the various communities and the selection of educational curricula have efficacious in both the vertical (specialised) or horizontal (destruction). These thoughts came together and a hint of shame and sometimes pour sometimes without reference to party or institution. It is about frameworks general extrapolated to infer and devise solutions and treatments. I hope those who care about the subject of research and funding in the current international situation, which stripped the developing nations of the features that I found of Southeast Asia and other developing her country's tradition of innovations and products to developed countries.

Abstract

Promotion of a reading Culture aims to publicize reading among members of the general public. It is an activity that is meant to popularize reading and make it a lifelong hobby. The main objective of cultivating and promoting a reading culture is to make reading a habit that is appreciated and loved by citizens. It is therefore important to create awareness on the importance of reading for leisure and not necessarily to pass exams and to develop reading as a habit and culture. Without the opportunity to read widely, what is taught in the classroom cannot be reinforced. Consequently, pupils cannot develop skills of locating, selecting, organizing, manipulating, evaluating and processing information. Research has shown that those who read for examination lapse into illiteracy when they fail. In Kenya, most schools rely on library lessons to promote and cultivate the reading culture. Furthermore there are no policies in the Kenyan education system that encourages the promotion of reading culture. The reading habit is therefore promoted in a vacuum. Due to lack of a firm government policy, most schools have no libraries and adequate reading materials. This paper discusses the reading culture in Kenya and analyzes the efforts that are being undertaken to promote and cultivate the habit and there in suggests strategies which should be put in place in order to develop a reading culture in Kenya.

Abstract

Automation of university libraries becomes very imperative in order to optimally realize their mission statement. The purpose of this study is to provide a detailed review of the success story of RECON adoption and implementation at Kenneth Dike Library (a pioneering University in Africa and library automation in Nigeria) in order to resolve issues and problems slowing down RECON adoption in the developing world. The survey method was used to collect data. A face-to-face interview of some library staff knowledgeable about the RECON process (including the system librarian, cataloguers and those involved in the retrospective conversion of card catalogue in Kenneth Dike library) was used. Information about users’ experience was obtained through a questionnaire survey of registered patrons of the library, especially those directly involved in the use of the new OPAC system. The sole method of data analysis is the use of simple frequency analysis and percentages. This study will help to eliminate the erroneous believes about what library automation/RECON entails, thereby, facilitating adoption rates in those parts of the world that are still IT challenged. With increased adoption rate, there will be easy retrieval of information, improved library networking, and uniformity, integration of new and varied operations and services as well as elimination of repetitive boring library activities, and backlog of unprocessed materials in libraries. The study found out that Kenneth Dike Library made use of shared RECON and data input manually. The study also revealed that the RECON process took reasonable amount of time, involved well skilled manpower and cost moderately. The study further diagnosed some constraints inhibiting the library’s RECON. In spite of the numerous inhibiting factors such as human, economic, cultural and social barriers. The library’s OPAC had been successfully opened to users.

Abstract

Certain emergent issues have necessitated cooperation and resource sharing among libraries. Some of such squeezing phenomena are: increase in bibliographic access of literature through internet and off-line database on CDs; explosion in published output; static or decreasing library budget, along high cost of published output. There is need to motivate librarians for resource sharing to ensure optimum utilization of available financial, physical, electronically and manpower resources. Therefore, the study set out to identify measures for promoting resource sharing for effective access and utilization of information among university libraries in Anambra and Enugu States. It adopted a survey design. Federal and State universities were purposively chosen from the two States. The population comprised all librarians in those universities. The sample was made up of senior librarians and above. Research questions guided the study. Questionnaire was constructed to address the research questions. Percentages and means were used in analyzing the data obtained. Problems associated with resource sharing and ways of dealing with them were identified. Based on what was identified, recommendations were made.

Abstract

The Scientometrics Analysis of Research Output performance of Malaria research literature is an important aspect of the present study. Scientometrics studies are used to identify the pattern of publication, authorship, citations and secondary journal coverage in the hope such regularities can give an insight into the dynamics of the area under consideration. During 2003-2007 a total of 15685 papers were published by the scientists in the field of malarial research. The average Number of Publications produced per year was 20%. The highest number of publications 3731was produced in 2006. The most productive author is White N J with 136 papers dealing with malarial research and 0.9% of all papers published in this research field. The highest number of publication is accounted to 11758 (74.96%) Vs LCS 44000 as Articles and lowest is as Bibliography - 1 Vs LCS 0. The highest number of publication is at USA and lowest number of publication is at West Indis (Assoc.St.).
