The use of collections and services at IIT Delhi library: A survey

Abstract
This study examines the use of collections and services at IIT Delhi Library. A well structured 190 questionnaires were distributed among IIT Delhi users during the academic session 2008 - 09, to find out the user of information resources is being provided by IIT library. The questionnaires were checked and out of 178 filled questionnaires returned, 170 (95.51%) were found fit for analysis and out of which 8 (4.49%) were considered unusable. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the various aspects of use of collections and services, purpose of visit to the library; adequacy of library hours, infrastructure facilities, use and collections of documents that is, internet information resources. The paper also identifies the levels of use of various services provided, access of online databases services, database search techniques, and users’ awareness about different types of library network. Highlights satisfactions with overall functions of the library. Suggestions have been given to make the collections and services more beneficial for the academic community of the mentioned Technical Institutes India as well as abroad.

Abstract
This paper discussed the role of digital libraries in law research. Works from similar studies were reviewed. The paper discussed the concept of digital library and its advantages and problems, the concept of legal research, important of information resources, information needs and seeking behavior of lawyers were also discussed, the results of observational method conducted in some universities in Nigeria were also discussed.

Abstract
This paper dealt with information systems which had existed since the beginning of mankind. Information systems tagged as computer based information is employed in educational settings in all countries of the world especially Nigeria as a developing nation. This has changed over the years and has given rise to information technologies and data storage devices for recording information. These are virtually done in any form of energy spanning from manual muscle power in hand writing to acoustic vibrations in phonographic recording. As new information technologies are developed in educational industries, new categories emerge that can be used for information systems. This paper therefore examined information systems in Nigerian education as it affects data storage devices and data bank. This is because the power to process information rapidly makes the data bank a versatile centre for planning and research.

Automation and problems in their implementation: An investigation of special libraries in Indore, India

Abstract
The study was carried out to know the status of library automation and problems in their implementation in special libraries of Indore city, Madhya Pradesh. It discusses automation, its need, and application in special libraries. The study explained the various problems faced by authorities and the staff during the process of automation. The tool adopted to conduct the study is a well structured questionnaire. The staff hesitancy and lack of attitude towards automation and unsatisfactory library software problems are the major hindrances to speedy automation. It finally highlights the key suggestions for better implementation of library automation and to overcome the hurdles faced during pre and post automation.

Software reverse engineering process: Factors, elements and features

Abstract
The reverse engineering presents the system artifacts at higher levels of abstraction for maintenance activities. This paper presents an overview of the case studies on various types of existing software system to recover the different artifacts existing at implementation, structural, functional and domain levels. As a result of these case studies; the factors on which reverse engineering process depends, features and elements required by the reverse engineering process to recover the artifacts for maintenance at domain, functional, structural and implementation abstraction levels in varying details for reverse engineering are identified and presented in this paper.

Serials acquisition problems in Nigerian Federal University Libraries

Abstract
The study sought to identify acquisition activities and problems in university libraries of southern Nigeria. 58 serials staff were sampled randomly from the 13 federal university libraries in southern Nigeria. A self designed questionnaire made of 7 items was distributed to the sampled staff. A total of 48 (82.7%) of the questionnaire were returned. Data was collated and analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 10.0. The results were presented with tables, frequency and percentages while Chi-square inferential statistics was used in testing the hypothesis. The result shows that serials acquisition operation in southern Nigeria federal university libraries, involves the following activities: Selection of titles, pre-order checking, preparation of final list for order and ordering. Other activities of such operation are verification of receipt, checking in of materials, claiming and renewal of subscription as well as cancellation of order. Serials acquisition operation is more developed in south western university libraries than the other geopolitical zones. Acquisition of serials in southern Nigeria federal university libraries is besieged with problems. These problems are those related to cost of serials, selection tools, nature of serials and subscription decision. Recommendations were made based on the findings.
