Abstract

We apply extreme value theory to determine the over-threshold peaks of the data and then use the Kolmogorv- Smirnov and Anderson-Darling goodness of fit tests to show that the generalized Pareto distribution fits the heavy-tailed distribution better than the Lognormal, Gamma, Weibull and Normal distributions in rice damaged by typhoons. The appropriate of the threshold value and probable maximum loss can be calculated as one of reference indexes on risk retention or/and crop insurance associated with the natural systematic risk of major agricultural disasters. The properties we found are useful in crop loss assessment and in the decision making of government's risk financing for major agricultural disasters. Our method may be applied to other disasters and other countries.

Key words: natural disasters, generalized Pareto distribution, heavy-tailed distribution, threshold value, probable maximum loss.

Abstract

In this research, the situations of university entrance examinations simulate the conditions of decision-making behavior. Based on the analysis of the above information that is empowered by a series of interviews, a new idea about the behavior of human beings in decision-making is developed. "Antirational decision making" expresses that the limitation of rationality could lead to decisions which have worse results than random decisions or even inaction. Antirational decision-making in fact is based on a "logical fallacy” that is accepted (and sometimes believed) by individuals. Special properties of entrance examinations prepare acceptable validity and reliability for our survey.

Key words: Antirational decision making, bounded rationality, rational decision making.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of the organizational intelligence of the Technical Education Institutions for Girls in Diyarbakir, anliurfa and Konya in Turkey. These provinces are studied with the demand of Girls Technical Education Institutions because of the heterogeneous structure they have about organizational intelligence perceptions, in terms of geographical extent, social, economic and cultural dimensions. In this study, “Multi-dimensional organizational intelligence scale” that re-adapted for technical education institutions by Erçetin and Potas was used. In conclusion, perceptions about general organizational intelligence level are intensified in “middle level” choice. Also these perceptions about organizational intelligence do not vary in general according to regions and districts; while they vary between teachers and managers.

Key words: Organizational intelligence, dimensions of organizational intelligence, educational institutions, multidimensionality.

Accepted 11 November, 2018

Abstract

The aim of this research is to address general relationships between self leadership and critical thinking as well as relationships with the sub dimensions. Survey method was used in the research. The population included 450 students in Firat University (of Turkey) attending pedagogical formation program for being teachers in secondary schools. The study sample comprised of 386 students selected among those students on a random basis. The proportion of the study sample to the population is 85.78%. Two scales were applied to the students at the same time. One of them is self leadership scale. The other scale used in the study is the critical thinking scale. Of the 386 students participating in the study, 221 are males (57.3%) and 165 are female (42.7%). There is a correlation of 0.41 between critical thinking and self leadership. According to the results of multiple regression analysis held between sub dimensions of self leadership and critical thinking, regression equality regarding prediction of critical thinking (mathematical model) is as follows: Critical thinking = 2.856 - 0.030 natural prize strategies - 0.337 behavior-oriented strategies - 0.231 constructive thinking model strategies + 0.957 general self leadership.

Key words: Self-leadership, critical thinking, student.

Relationship antecedents that impact on outcomes of strategic stakeholder alliances

Abstract

The research aims to measure the reliability of applying the three-stage model to strategic alliances and to propose relationship antecedents that may impact on the outcome of strategic alliances. Four relationship outcomes were used to measure strategic alliances and were adopted from the seminal work by Grunig and Huang (2000): ‘Trust’ relates to the reliability and integrity of relationship partners; ‘Commitment’ results from relationship partners’ effort to maintain the organisational relationship; ‘Satisfaction’ encompasses both affection and emotion and is conceptualised as a response to the reinforcement of positive expectations and ‘Control mutuality’ refers to the equality of power and decision-making practices that take place within an organisational relationship. An electronic survey from a sampling population of 2,500 members of The Institute for Procurement and Supply, South Africa (IPSA), materialised in only 154 workable questionnaires (n = 154). This study investigates the impact on the outcome of the types of strategic alliance, the industry, the size of the partnering organisations and the duration thereof. Results indicated that the antecedents did not have a significant influence on the outcomes of strategic alliances. This introduces directions for future research into whether and which antecedents impact on the outcome of organisational relationships.

Key words: Strategic alliances, relationship outcomes, trust, commitment, satisfaction, control mutuality.

Abstract

This study addresses the deficiency in service quality by integrating the “importance” and “satisfaction” indices to establish the “importance-satisfaction model (I-S model)” and provide a comprehensive assessment model for improving specific quality attributes. The study applies this integrated measuring instrument in the Taiwanese hot spring and financial industries by conducting a questionnaire survey with their employees to assess “importance” and “satisfaction” in their capacity as “internal customers.” The study has identified eight financial industry items and four hot spring industry items in the “To be improved” area of the I-S model. The study discovered that the financial industry improvement items greatly exceeded the hot spring industry, and therefore, financial industry employees are unsatisfied with the business offering management system. The study demonstrates that the I-S model is an excellent instrument for assessing the priorities for quality improvement.

Key words: SERVQUAL model, employee satisfaction, financial industries.
