Abstract

Fragmentation of agriculture prevents the efficient use of production factors. The aim of this study is to determine the factors which affect land fragmentation of farms in villages of Central District of Erzurum Province in 2004. Ordered logit model was used for this purpose. As a result of the study, it has been found that there is a positive relationship between tools and machinery assets which constitute the explanatory variable, the size of the enterprise, forage crop cultivation, population working in the agricultural sector and land fragments number. In addition, a negative relationship was found between arid land rental value and land fragmentation.

Key words: Land fragmentation, ordered logit, Erzurum, Turkey.

Abstract

One of the effects of the current postal legislation is that a request by the public postal operators must publish accounting data on their operations while respecting a number of criteria. The obligation of the public operator involves keeping separate accounts for reserved and unreserved services. Directive of European Parliament and of the Council from the 1997 includes guide for the issue of mechanism for the allocation of costs, which should be kept in the preparation of these financial statements. According to the provisions of the directive 97/67/EC, such accounts must be verified and made public in accordance with common standards that apply to the commercial activities of certain countries. In this paper, authors have presented the necessity of compliance with mentioned legislation through the application of activity based costing (ABC) method for calculation of costs to the business of the public postal operator. Observed the operator of one of the developing countries, that is his business has applied ABC method for calculation of costs, with some of its modifications, and results were obtained that fully meet the requirements of the directive and significantly simplify the accounting system of the operator.

Key words: Directive 97/67/EC, costs, ABC, public postal operator.

Abstract

Generally, a project is an investment suggestion, which requires making a series of investment expenditures (cash outflow) in a planned manner to obtain more cash inflow in the future. Therefore, the basic objective of project appraisal should be to make prior decisions on the feasibility of investment advice. The results of project feasibility can be classified into two categories: uncertainty and risk. Risks related to investment and financial markets are also closely related with the audit and supervision authorities. One of the main objectives of regulatory and control authorities is to achieve economic stability in the market and to minimize systematic risks. This requires that all institutions define the risks they will encounter, measure these risks via risk analysis techniques and assess the potential impacts of these risks on the institution. Today, projects within the housing sector - which has been heavily hit by the recent economic crisis- are one of the areas subject to risk analysis. This article aims to determine and discuss risks factors within the housing project development process by applying discounted cash flow analysis (DCF), Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) and sensitivity analysis to a housing sector with an integrated approach. Two different discounted cash flow models were developed as part of a scenario analyzing a housing development project. These models were subjected to risk analysis based on MCS, one of the many methods analyzing risk distribution. Thus, data from the probability distributions are envisaged to strengthen the trust of the manager in the value and acceptance of the project, and to concretize the attitude to risk of the decision making group. In conclusion, the study defined important variables for efficient risk management of housing development projects and developed a risk-decision support model, which incorporates scenario analysis and MCS.

Key words: Risk analysis, decision-support analysis, risk management, Monte Carlo simulation, discounted cash flow analysis (DCF).

Abstract

The study examines the effect of different types of debts on the economic growth in Malaysia during the sample period 1970 - 2006. Using cointegration test, the findings suggest that all components of debts have a negative effect on long-run economic growth. In addition, the Granger causality test reveals the existence of a short-run causality linkage between all debt measures and economic growth in the short-run. The policy conclusion is that an increase in foreign debt level adversely influences economic performance, whereas the decline in the rate of economic growth weakens the ability of the country to service its debt.

Key words: Debts, economic growth, debt overhang, cointegration, causality.

Abstract

Employee creativity makes an important contribution to organizational survival and development. Hence, researchers have become increasingly interested in identifying the conditions that influence employee creativity. One of these conditions is work support for creativity. In the PRC, work support has received more considerable research attention because it is related to “Guanxi” which plays a key role in organizational behavior. Unfortunately, the mechanism surrounding the support-creativity link is not well understood. To help address this situation, we examined the mediating roles of intrinsic motivation and positive mood in the effect of support from both supervisors and coworkers on employee creativity. Using data from 233 employees in the PRC, we hypothesized and found that (1) work support from both supervisors and coworkers was positively related to employee creativity, (2) intrinsic motivation mediated these relationships, (3) positive mood mediated the relationship between the support from supervisors and creativity, but not the relationship between support from coworkers and creativity. Implications of these results for research and practice were discussed.

Key words: Work support from supervisors, work support from coworkers, intrinsic motivation, positive mood, employee creativity.

Abstract

In the highly-competitive leisure service industry, improving service quality to gain competitive advantages is the only key to sustainable management of leisure agriculture. However, developing leisure farming may cause positive and negative impact on local economy, social culture, and environment. Therefore, how to identify the factors affecting tourist choice of leisure farming types is an important issue which is worth studying. Leisure farming tourists living in Taiwan were selected as research subjects. The sampling survey is executed by questionnaires. The collected data are also analyzed by using statistical methods. The research results show: (1) there are positive relationships among service quality, positive tourism impact, and total tourist satisfaction; (2) some demographic variables may lead to significant difference in perception of service quality, tourism impact, and total tourist satisfaction; (3) tangibles and assurance of service quality, positive economy and positive social culture of tourism impact significantly influence tourist choice of leisure farming types; (4) there are significantly positive and direct effects between service quality and positive tourism impact, and positive tourism impact and total tourist satisfaction, but significantly negative and direct effects between service quality and negative tourism impact, and negative tourism impact and total tourist satisfaction through Amos analysis.

Key words: Leisure farming, service quality, positive/negative tourism impact, total tourist satisfaction.
