Spray distribution uniformity of different types of nozzles and its spray deposition in potato plant

Abstract

Spray distribution uniformity on sampling posts and spray deposition in potato plants were investigated with six different types of spray nozzles (standard flat fan, hollow cone, air induction and twin jet hydraulic nozzles, spinning disc nozzle and air assisted rotary atomizer). Spray pressures were 4 bar for the hydraulic nozzles and 1.5 bar for the spinning disc nozzle and air assisted rotary atomizer. All trials were conducted at 6.0 km h-1 travel speed. For the spray distribution uniformity, three different sampling materials (petri dish, water sensitive paper and aluminum strip) on the sampling posts were used. Spray mixture containing water and brilliant blue was used as spray liquid. The concentration of spray samples were corrected with the calibration of the degradation of the dye exposed to direct sunlight and in a dark ambience. The air induction and twin jet nozzles had the lowest means in coefficient of variation (CV%) at all sampling materials. The highest deposit at the middle of the plants was provided with the air induction and twin jet nozzles. The hollow cone nozzle had the lowest mean in deposition at the bottom of the plants. The amount of dye with the air assisted rotary atomizer transferring the top, middle and bottom of the plants respectively, 35.2, 38.9 and 37.2% was found to be deposited on the underside of the leaves.

Effect of nitrogen and split doses of potassium on quality aspects of Brassica species

Abstract

Field experiments were conducted on three different Brassica spp. (Brassica juncea, Brassica carinata and Brassica nupus) with three levels of nitrogen (40, 80 and 120 kg of N ha-1) and 2 methods of time of potassium application at 80 kg ha-1 ((i) 100% basal and (ii) 50% basal + 50% at the time of 1st irrigation), during Rabi season of 2003 - 2004 and 2004 - 2005 showed that Brassica spp. responded significantly to the application of N and K. Maximum oil yield was observed in case of B. carinata (PBC-9221) and minimum under B. napus. Higher dose of nitrogen 120 kg N ha-1 produced maximum oil yield. Split application of potassium also produced higher oil yield than basal dose of potassium.

Impacts of land use types on ant communities in a tropical forest margin (Oumé – Côte d’Ivoire)

Abstract

Land use and particularly agriculture is a leading cause of below ground biodiversity loss. However this fauna is known to play a key role in soil fertility and to offer many other ecosystem services. In order to better understand the effects of land use on ants which are major component of the tropical soil fauna, these insects were surveyed in the eight main land use types in Oumé (Côte d’Ivoire). These included primary forest, secondary forest, multispecific tree plantations, 10-years old teak plantations, 4-years old teak plantations, food crops, cocoa plantations and fallows. Modified versions of the ants of leaf litter protocol and monolith method were used to sample the ants. Species richness, abundance, diversity and composition of ants varied among these habitats. Food crops and 4-years old teak plantations were the less species rich land use types. However they diverged in term of species composition. Forest habitats were the most species rich, reflecting their relative integrity. Ant subfamily Myrmicinae and genus Tetramorium were surrogate for indicating the pattern of species richness change between land uses. These results illustrated the sensibility of ants to changes in land use types and practices and encourage their inclusion in conservation orientated bio-monitoring.

Abstract

There are lots of plans and policies through development and especially rural development. In Iran, “Registration of Rural Residential Texture” is one of those projects that are used to gain security and ownership in rural areas. Now, after three decades of its implementations some challenges still came up. This paper tries to review the history of Land Documentation in Iran, explains the process and discusses the different points of view in this case.

Evaluation of the territorial system of forest recreation by natural indicators: Belgrade forest example

Abstract

The current study presents a method for establishing a complex recreation resource within a territorial system for forest recreation areas within the period of 1960 to 2008, using quantitative forest stand indicators. Use of the methodology for direct assessment of forest stands with recreational functions on the basis of natural indicators. The assessment is tied to performance of pre made "bioclimatical analysis” and requirements of recreational ergonomics of the site. The phases adhered includes I-Classifying the results from the conducted studies on plant succession and forest types. II- Inventory and assessment of stand recreation suitability by category. iii- Type and class of recreation occurring in the forest. iv- Calculation of the average coefficients of recreation suitability under various scenarios. The present study primarily targets an efficient forest management approach, in order to help planners in making the optimal decision for recreation activities in forests.

Computing the cost of the agricultural products: A case study

Abstract

Agriculture constitutes a specific sector of the Romanian economy. It does not contribute significantly to the increase in the gross domestic product, however, it is expected to fulfil three important functions: economic, social and environmental. The cost computation for the agricultural products is different from other activity sectors. Most of the papers addressing managerial accounting issues refer to manufacturing companies. The ones conducted in the services entities usually refer to not for profit organizations. We consider that our work is a research paper which brings contribution to the field as there is a very small number of works in the area. When computing the performance of an economic entity we have to refer to its costs and revenues. Our target in this paper is to establish the cost of the production obtained in a farm. The farm has a complex production, dealing with crops and also with livestock. Using as a research methodology the case study, we also aim to present the documents that the persons responsible have to fulfil in the normal production process.
