Lethal toxic effects of industrial detergent (Neatex) and corrosion inhibitor (Norust CR 486) commonly released into the Nigerian environment were studied using standard laboratory toxicity test. Bioindicators (fish, shrimp and earthworms) were exposed to varying concentrations of the test chemicals using the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) # 203, 218 and 207 protocols respectively. The water, sediment and soil ratings indicate that both chemicals were slightly toxic to the organisms and the estimated 4, 10 and 14 days lethal concentration (LC50) showed that the corrosion inhibitor was more toxic than the industrial detergent. There was differential toxicity between organisms exposed to the test chemicals in the three media and the control groups at (p < 0.05). The observed sensitivity of the test organisms to both chemicals in the different media provides a basis for regular checks on chemicals discharged into the Niger Delta waters, this is because most of the chemicals released into the environment sorb to the soil and sediment particles and can cause harm to organisms in the soils, sediment and overlying waters.

Determination of common cations by IC methods in Baghdad was carried out in this investigation. The optimum values of the instrumental parameters were reached best in relative standard deviation (RSD), correlation coefficient (r2) and method detection limits (MDLs) and other parameters to approving the precision and accuracy of this method. Both peak height (PH) and peak area (PA) were used for the evaluation of the IC signals. All standards and samples have been prepared by ultra pure water. Generally the peaks for cations were clearly, good resolution and there are no any interaction between its. We recorded the total time for cation analyses was about 15.5 mins. The elution of cations follows the order: Li+, Na+, NH4+, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ that because for cation separation the cation-exchange resin is usually a sulfonic acid group.

Mantisia wengeri Fischer is a rare and endemic zingiber of North-East India which has been traditionally used for curing bone fracture and gastro-intestinal ailments. However due to the extreme rarity of the germplasm, studies related to genetic diversity, phytochemical properties etc. in this plant has not been feasible. The study describes the development of high efficiency regeneration protocol for obtaining large- scale diverse plantlets from rhizomatous callus tissues in Murashige and Skoog medium incorporated with various concentration of growth regulators N6-benzyladenine (BA), α- Napthalene acetic acid (NAA), 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and sucrose at elevated concentrations. Bud forming capacity (BFC) to a maximum of 33.5±3.7 was recorded from the organogenic callus tissues of M. wengeri within 8 - 10 weeks in MS medium supplemented with a combination of 10µM of BA and 40µM NAA at 10% sucrose. The callogenic plantlets are been transferred to the field for studying morphological and genetic variations.

Abstract

Background: Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) is the economically important plants with good source of fiber, vitamins, minerals, and phenolic contents. In order to solve the increasing food demand and the presence of potential health benefits of eggplants need to increase both quality, productivity, yields, and cost-effectiveness. Objective: Therefore, the current study objective was to achieve the vegetative growth, phenological development, yield of eggplant, and soil fertility using spiritual blessing (biofield) energy treatment (SBET)-Trivedi Effect®. Methods: The physical features of soil were measured using the hand feel method. The mineral components were determined using standard methods. Plant morphological, phenological, and yield-related parameters were noted by experienced scientist. Results: The eggplant yields (ton) were significantly increased by 50.16% per hectare in the blessing/biofield energy treatment group compared to control. Numbers of fruits per plant, fruit weight, others vegetative parameters were also significantly improved in the treatment group compared to the control. Conclusion: SBET-Trivedi Effect® significantly improved morphological, phenological, and yield-related parameters of eggplant compared to control group. Thus, these results warrant further independent verification, to be an absolute cost-effective approach” in the near future, since cost-effectiveness wasn’t analyzed.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of long-term natural aging on germination capability and several biochemical characteristics regarding antioxidative response of both the dry seeds and the during germination of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) seeds stored for 42 years. Percent germination ratio of the seeds was monitored for 7 days. The activities of catalase, peoroxidase and superoxide dismutase, lipid peroxidation level, and the contents of phenolic matter and H2O2 were tested in both dry seeds and germinating seeds on 1st, 3rd and 7th days of germination. On the final day of seed germination, the percent germination was 35% in the 42-years old seeds while %96 in the control seeds (non-aged). In addition, the long-term aging caused an important increase in lipid peroxidation and total phenolic content in the aged dry seeds. Long-term aged seeds showed low H2O2 content and the activities of catalase, peroxidase and superoxide dismutase. Decreased germination ability of the aged legume seeds were well correlated with the increase in lipid peroxidation levels and the decrease in the activities of enzymatic antioxidants studied. However, during germination, the differences in biochemical parameters studied were not statistically significant in the aged seeds in comparison to their controls.

Study of biological efficacy of CAPT FORTE 184 WG and CAPT 88 EC used to control insect pests of horticultural crops was conducted in March 2010 in the urban city of Tillabéri in Niger. The main objective of this study was to assess the biocide effect of these insecticides on the major insect pests of horticultural crops. The results of this study have shown that CAPT FORTE 184 WG and CAPT 88 EC had a reducing effect of capturing the insects in the treated plots, whereas the population of these insects increased in the check plot. The cumulated death rates at 21 days after chemicals applications are 75.19 ± 3.5% et 90.66 ± 2.9% with respectively the treatments CAPT FORTE 184 WG with all the confounded doses and the treatments CAPT 88 EC with all the doses.
