Antibacterial action of an aqueous grape seed polyphenolic extract

Abstract
The potential of a polyphenolic grape seed extract for use as a natural antibacterial agent was evaluated. Pure catechin (CS) and a previously LC-MS characterized grape seed phenolic extract (PE) were evaluated as antibacterial agents against ESCHERICHIA COLI and BREVIBACTERIUM LINENS on solid and in liquid culture media. After 48 h incubation on solid medium, PE had a bactericidal effect on the gram positive B. LINENS and a reduction of the microbial growth for E. COLI. The antibacterial agents tested were effective against E. COLI for 13 h, after 7 h incubation, but ineffective against B.LINENS in liquid medium. CS and PE both had an antibacterial effect depending on incubation time.

The study of triploid progenies crossed between different ploidy grapes

Abstract
The cross between different ploidy grape was one of the effective ways to obtain new seedless cultivars, in this study, through testing the changes of the ovule weight and observing its anatomical structure, the period and mode of ovule abortion in crosses between diploid and tetraploid grape cultivars were studied, reciprocal cross was also conducted between them, the results indicated that the proper sampling period is one of the most important factors of the grape in ovule culture, unlike the seedless cultivars, the embryo abortion did not occur at the same time for most seeded cultivars crossed with different ploidy plants, the ovule abortion was only individual behavior. The period of ovule abortion was correlated with the mature period of the female parent. The abortive embryo of early-maturing cultivars occurred at five weeks after pollination, then the mid-maturing ones and late-maturing ones were at six and nine weeks after pollination comparatively. The reciprocal crossing results showed that this crossing form has great mating obstruction and the situation was more serious when tetraploid cultivars were used as female parent. Few seeds from 2X×4X had good germinability, while those from 4X×2X had lost their germinability and no seedlings were obtained, the highest germination rate and seedling survivals rate were obtained when the ovule was excised 60 days after pollination, it is easier to harvest hybrid progeny when using diploid as female parent.

A study of suitability of grapevine cultivar Plovdina as a possible indicator plant for flavescence dorée disease

Abstract
Grapevine cv. Plovdina is a traditional local variety that is very sensitive to flavescence dorée (FD) disease. In this paper, we present the results of top-grafting FD-infected cv. Plovdina plants with scions originating from healthy mother plants of the same cultivar using the "green grafting” method. The first grapevine yellows (GY) symptoms, consisting of yellowing of the Plovdina leaves, have been observed on scions 20 days after grafting. Our results show that GY symptoms were due to phytoplasma and not the viral infection, since grapevine leafroll associated viruses-1, 2 and 3 (GLRaV-1, 2, 3) could not be detected in the scions. Twenty days after-grafting, phytoplasma FD was detected in all grafted scions. Our results indicate that grapevine cv. Plovdina is very suitable as an indicator plant for Flavescence dorée disease.

Abstract
The studies were conducted to determine the prevalence of diseases on four varieties of citrus. These are sweet orange (Citrus sinensis), tangelo (Citrus paradise X Citrus reticulate), grape (Citrus paradise) and lemon (Citrus limon). The study showed that, tangelo and sweet oranges were more susceptible to fungal attack than grape and lemon. The disease symptoms commonly observed included dieback on the four species of citrus: tangelo (65%), sweet orange (60%), grape (55%) and lemon (40%). An effective integrated management practice including the use of resistant varieties is recommended.

Effects of cluster reduction, herbagreen and humic acid applications on grape yield and quality of Horoz Karasi and Gök üzüm grape cultivars

Abstract
This study was carried out in 5 BB rootstock grafted on Horoz Karasi and Gök üzüm grape varieties (VITIS VINIFERA L.) during the 2010 growth season. Effects of 1/3 cluster reduction (CR), 1/3 CR + herbagreen (HG) and 1/3 CR + humic acid (HA) applications on grape yield and quality of cultivars were examined. The results showed that 1/3 CR + HA application increased grape yield, berry weight, berry red and blue color intensity values of Horoz Karasi grape variety and 1/3 CR application increased grape yield and maturity index values of Gök üzüm grape variety.

Effects of some growth regulating applications on leaf yield, raw cellulose and nutrient element content of the Müsküle table grape variety

Abstract
The vine leaf is an important dietary product for human nutrition by virtue of its high nutritious value and low calorie. This study was conducted in the Province of Konya in a vineyard belonging to a producer in the 2010 vegetation period. This study investigated the effects of repetitive applications of herbagreen (HG), humic acid (HA), combined foliar fertilizer (CFF) and HG+CFF performed in the Müẟküle grape variety grafted on 5 BB rootstock on fresh or pickled leaf size and leaf raw cellulose content. HA application increased leaf area and leaf water content values whereas HG+CFF application increased leaf raw cellulose values. The effects of the application on leaf weight and leaf volume were found to be insignificant. It was observed that leaf blade samples were efficient in terms of N, P, Fe, Mn and Cu content, but deficient in K, Ca, Mg and Zn content.
